Mama June's Net Worth In 2024 Proves Couponing Pays Off

Mama June's net worth in 2024 isn't what reality star dreams are made of, but it's still more than she had during the darkest period of her life.

June Shannon, who was known as "The Coupon Queen," is famous for her frugality and extreme couponing habit, which she previously revealed she learned from some other moms on the child pageant circuit. Even after hitting bona fide reality stardom with Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, she maintained a frugal lifestyle—at least initially.

"I'm thankful for this show because we were struggling from day to day, week to week, just like everybody else does," she told OWN's Where Are They Now in 2016. Now, I can be able to say if the kids need new clothes or need new shoes, I can go out and get them."

"I get high off of couponing and walking out of a store and them either having to pay me or me walking out of it totally free," she boasted. "I am very, very frugal with my money, still coupon a lot, still save a lot of money—hello, I bought this house in foreclosure!"

She stockpiles a lot of dry goods, but especially loads up on laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper and candles, because they all pretty much last forever.

"A lot of people who become famous and they make millions of dollars, they just spend it as soon as they make it, or spend it before they even make it," she said. "I'm never going to be like that. Don't ever forget where you come from, because in a minute it can be gone, just like that. I want to be able to live comfortable [sic] for a long while after this amazing adventure ends."

Unfortunately, Shannon fell victim to some of the same trappings—and worse—that she warned about. Find out Mama June Shannon's net worth in 2024 and how she earned and almost lost it all.

How did Mama June become famous?

Born June Elizabeth Shannon in McIntyre, Georgia, on Aug. 10, 1979, "Mama June" had cataracts as a child that went untreated and is now legally blind as an adult.

Mama June had her first child, Anna "Chickadee" Toney (née Cardwell) when she was just 15 years old. Her next two daughters, Jessica Louise "Chubbs" Shannon and Lauryn Mychelle "Pumpkin" Efird, were born in 1996 and 2000; their father is sex offender Michael Anthony Ford. Her youngest daughter, Alana Frances "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, was born in 2005; Alana's father is Mama June's then-longtime boyfriend Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson.

Mama June got Alana in the child pageant circuit and in January 2012, they appeared in an episode of TLC's Toddlers & Tiaras. Alana became a viral sensation for her sense of humor and "honey boo boo child" catchphrase, leading to their spinoff, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, premiering in August of the same year.

After it was reported that Mama June was dating a convicted sex offender (who June's own daughter Anna accused of sexual abuse), TLC pulled the plug and canceled the show in late October 2014.

Since then, the family has remained on and off of reality TV in WeTV series including Mama June: From Not to Hot (which chronicled her weight loss), Mama June: Road to Redemption and Mama June: Family Crisis (which followed her efforts to rebuild her life after becoming addicted to cocaine). In the latest season of Mama June: Family Crisis, the series follows the family as they cope with Anna's cancer diagnosis, treatment and tragic death, as well as Mama June and Alana's battles over money.

Mama June's net worth in 2024 is about $100,000, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

It could've been much higher, which reports putting her and family's earnings from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo at an estimated $2.75 million, but sadly, Shannon's net worth plummeted after she struggled with drug addiction. During her relationship with Geno Doak in March 2019, she and Doak were arrested on suspicion of drug possession, then missed their mandated court dates.

She told Us Weekly that she spent $750,000 on cocaine and that she and Doak were living in a car before they got clean.

While promoting Mama June: Road to Redemption in March 2021, she told Us Weekly, "I don't have a lot. I'm trying to rebuild myself financially. I went to rehab with a $1.75 to my name."

Today, she's doing at least somewhat better.

"I'm able to pay my rent. I'm able to pay my light bill and able to do that and have just a little bit of money saved up," she said. "My goal is to live day by day. I would like to get some of this weight off of me and, you know, eventually, it will happen, but my sobriety and mending my relationships with the kids [are what] I'm getting back into."

Did June take Alana's money?

In short, yes, but not all of it.

In Mama June: Family Crisis Season 6, Thompson accuses Shannon of stealing her money and using funds that were supposed to be allocated for her Coogan Account, a special trust set up for child stars to prevent nefarious adults from using the money that their kids earned. Shannon told Thompson that she won't be able to legally access the funds in the Coogan Account until she's 21, which she admitted was a lie.

"I worked really hard for what I have and the money that I have, so I was assuming or under the assumption she put 100 percent of the money in there, but that's not how that worked," Thompson told Entertainment Tonight, adding that she was really "trying to get over it and trying to push through it."

When asked about if she used Thompson's hard-earned reality star cash, Shannon said that she was advised to deposit a portion of the funds into the Coogan Account and to use some of the funds for her family to "live off" of, noting, "It wasn't just mainly spent on me."

Did June give Alana money for college?

Thompson asked Shannon for help paying for her first semester of college, after which she said she'd handle it herself, but claimed Shannon refused to help her.

"Not even with a dollar," Thompson lamented in an episode of Mama June: From Hot to Not. "Maybe she thinks that paying for [her husband] Justin's chains or something is more important than giving it to me for college. She's stingy when it comes to money." She added, "It kind of just pisses me off because she can help everyone around her ... but it's just like when it comes to me it's like, 'Well, Alana I can't do nothing for you, I don't have the money' and she knows she's got the money."

"I'm still rebuilding my life, that is why I have chose to give her some tough love and say, 'No, I'm not going to pay for college,'" Shannon explained in the same episode. "It's me wanting her to see the bigger picture."

Did Mama June lose her home?

In October 2019, Shannon didn't lose her home, but she did sell it to investors at a massive loss at $100,000 cash.

According to TMZ, the five-bedroom, three-bathroom, 3,225-square foot house in Hampton, Georgia, was appraised a year earlier at about $156,000 (and may have been even higher given the fame factor). Before selling the home, neighbors complained to TMZ about Shannon's house having boarded-up broken windows, a dumpster out front, a dented garage door from when Doak drove an SUV into it and trash all over the property.

The investors quickly injected $30,000 worth of renovations to the property, upping its value to $225,000.

Shannon sold her Hampton, Georgia, house for a mere $100,000.

In December 2023, Shannon told TMZ that she'd been sober for nearly four full years at that point, noting she got clean on Jan. 27, 2020, and didn't even smoke cigarettes or drink at all anymore. She also revealed that she had to take weekly drug tests in order to film Mama June: From Not to Hot, but added, "That doesn't keep me clean. I keep me clean."
