A 36-year-old man is currently in critical condition after being shot by his own weapon during an altercation with a 32-year-old man on the subway in Brooklyn Thursday afternoon, per a New York Police Department press conference.

The 32-year-old man entered the northbound A train at the Nostrand Avenue Station. Once the vehicle began moving, which was around 4:45 p.m., the 36-year-old man approached the 32-year-old man.

Per the NYPD conference, the 36-year-old was described as “aggressive and provocative towards the 32-year-old.”

“Words were exchanged between the two, and during the words, it became physical,” explained NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper. The 36-year-old raised a knife or a razor blade towards the 32-year-old man.

He then put the unidentified sharp object down and took a gun out from his jacket. Once he had the firearm in his hand he then “started walking toward” the other man in “a menacing way,” and started to yell at him.

Soon, the altercation turned physical. Police believe the 32-year-old wrestled the gun away from the 36-year-old. The 32-year-old then fired multiple shots into the 36-year-old's head.

The 36-year-old was then transported to New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The 32-year-old man is being questioned by detectives. But, at this time, no charges have been filed. Neither man's name has been released by authorities.

Both the northbound A and C trains have been temporarily delayed in an effort to assist with the NYPD's current investigation.
