Don Mancini's killer doll who does it all, Chucky, has terrorized children and adults across America for over 35 years. And over a fairly consistent timeline, which is rare in horror franchises.

Through voodoo, snarky serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) transferred his spirit into a Good Guys doll named Chucky. And in this new form, Ray made his new body a temple (for murder).

Chucky's homicidal adventures have taken him far. He's traveled along an apartment building, a toy factory, a military camp, Hollywood, an insane asylum, a church, and most recently, the White House. And he had enough time to settle down with a wife and kids.

With Chucky, Mancini made landmarks in LGBTQ+ representation, rounding out the universe with central genderqueer, gay, and bisexual characters.

Throughout the numerous deaths he endured throughout each installment, Chucky, as he famously asserts, "Always comes back!" But how many installments have been in the Child's Play series? How did Chucky's killer streak start? When did Child's Play evolve into Chucky?

With six of the Chucky movies arriving on Netflix Aug. 1, here's everything you need to know about the timeline of the Child's Play franchise.

A killer origin story for the ages, the original Child's Play tale follows killer Charles "Chucky" Lee Ray (Dourif) being pursued by police. When all else fails, he uses voodoo to transfer his soul into a Good Guys doll. As Chucky, Ray soon finds himself at the home of six-year-old Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), whose widowed mother Karen (Catherine Hicks) bought the doll for Andy's birthday from a homeless man. Chucky begins tormenting the Barclays by murdering innocent people within their home without being detected. When Chucky learns the longer he's in doll form, the more humanistic his facial features become, his only hope is to transfer his soul into Andy's.

Two years after the events of Child's Play, Andy Barclay (Vincent) is in the foster care system after his mom Karen is admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Andy is adopted by Joanne and Phil Simpson (Jenny Agutter and Gerrit Graham) and has an older foster sister, Kyle (Christine Elise). But when the "Good Guys" manufacturer, Play Pals, foolishly reanimates a certain looking doll at their mainline factory for capitalistic reasons, Chucky comes back to life. Since revenge is a dish best served Barclay-ed, Chucky embarks on tracking Andy to claim his soul (again). As the killer doll infiltrates the Simpson's household, Andy and Kyle must team up to take down Chucky in another game of cat-and-mouse.

Though released nine months after the predecessor, Child's Play 3 takes an 8-year time jump to the future. This time, Andy is a 16-year-old (Justin Whalin) who has been sent to a military camp. As if being in the military wasn't bad enough, Chucky is brought back to life by Play Pals' CEO. When he sees that Andy has aged, Chucky sets his sights on a younger child, Tyler (Jeremy Sylvers), for the transfer of his spirit. Since this isn't Andy's first rodeo with the killer doll who wants to be a real boy, it's "third time's the charm" for him to get rid of Chucky for good.

Don Mancini received a dose of Scream fever as Ghostface's irreverent tone was absorbed into Child's Play, evolving the series into simply Chucky. With this tonal facelift, Chucky says "sayonara Andy" and gets with Tiffany.

Set in 1998, Charles Lee Ray's gothic femme fatale ex-girlfriend Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly) gets possession of Chucky's corpse and revives him. After engaging in a heated argument, Chucky fatally electrocutes Tiffany and reanimates her soul into a female doll. A butcher Barbie to his killer Ken. Now with both in need to become, akin to the Beauty and the Beast song, human again, they seek to retrieve an amulet, "The Heart of Damballa." The dolls hitch a ride with unsuspecting runaway sweethearts Jesse (Nick Stabile) and Jade (Katherine Heigl). While on their road trip, Chucky and Tiffany get into murderous mayhem, rekindle their love, and get hitched. However, as with every honeymoon phase, it ends up being cut short.

Six years after Bride of Chucky, which ended with Chucky being killed and Tiffany passing away after childbirth, their offspring Glen (Billy Boyd) has grown up. But Glen struggles with their identity on several levels: not knowing where they came from, their gender identity, and their underlying hunger for murder. All that changes once they see on TV that their parents, Chucky and Tiffany, have been refurbished as animatronics and landed in a Hollywood movie based around the Bride of Chucky events, starring Jennifer Tilly (as herself) and Redman (also himself).

So Glen goes to Hollywood and reanimates their long-lost parents. Once they're resurrected, their quest for human possession continues, with Tiffany wanting to become Tilly and ginger-haired Chucky a literal Redman. As usual, the two engage in a dispute — this time over Glen's identity, as well as getting into the family murder business. Like mother and father, like genderqueer child.

But, alas, it's Mo Chuckys, Mo Problems as he's cloned himself into other dolls. Meanwhile, the past toys from Don Mancini's treasure chest collide as a grown-up Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) and Tiffany, who has lived life as Jennifer Tilly after Seed of Chucky, are involved in this insane affair.
