As he often does, Marc Broussard channels R&B, soul and rock on his upcoming album, āS.O.S. 2: Save Our Soul: Soul on a Mission,ā due out Friday. But this isnāt just an ordinary album. As he did with the first edition āS.O.S.,ā the Louisiana singer-songwriter is donating half of the setās proceeds to City of Refuge, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people living in poverty.
Broussard spent time thinking about which songs he wanted to cover for this new collection, poring through some of his favorite tracks of all time, including songs by Solomon Burke, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and more.
āAbout a year ago, when we decided to do āSOS 2,ā we tossed around several themes like blues, soul and even yacht rock,ā Broussard told The Huffington Post. āBut something about this song āCry To Meā [first recorded by Burke] called out like it needed to be heard by the world again. I couldnāt get away from it. Iāve followed my gut at every step during this process and hopefully it pays off because weāre gonna help a lot of people in the process.ā
Broussard plans to release an āSOSā album every year in an effort to help people in need.
The Huffington Post is exclusively debuting the entire album ahead of Fridayās release. Take a listen below. And catch Broussard on tour this fall.
