Margot Robbie’s Next Career Move Is Reminding Fans of the Unfair Treatment of Jennifer Lawrence

Margot Robbie can look back on 2023 with great pride because the movie she produced and starred in, Barbie, was a billion-dollar success. Everyone is carefully following her next move, but not everyone is thrilled about the message how women are being treated in Hollywood.

In an interview with Deadline, Robbie acknowledged she has a lot of work ahead of her, but that some fans seem to want a break from her after the huge marketing campaign for Barbie. “Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’” she noted. “And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break.’ I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while.”

Robbie downplayed her incredible accomplishments by believing that people don’t want to see more of her. “Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her,” she added. “We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.” If this story sounds familiar, it should because fans on X are calling it the “Jennifer Lawrenfication of Margot Robbie.”

After winning in Oscar in 2013 for Silver Linings Playbook, JLaw was everywhere, even becoming the highest-paid female actress in Hollywood in 2015 and 2016. Her funny quips on talk shows became tiresome to critics and the disapproval became very loud — she took a break to escape the noise. “I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I’d gotten sick of me,” she explained to Vanity Fair in 2022. “It had just gotten to a point where I couldn’t do anything right.” It’s heartbreaking to read that Lawrence was so beaten down by the constant commentary. She added, “I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence.”

With Robbie seemingly taking a note from Lawrence’s experience, one X user pointed out how Hollywood is dripping in sexism. “i get so sad when women in the industry think people ‘are sick of them’ or ‘don’t want to see them on screen for a while’ when the reality is that they’ve been extremely successful and are then showcased in various media outlets,” they wrote. We all know that disappearing from the public eye isn’t usually a step men making in the industry after a successful year. It shows that there are two sets of rules still in existence. Robbie should be celebrating her historic summer, not hiding from the public until the trolls are ready to retreat.
