Mariah Carey speaks out after her mother and sister’s deaths: ‘A couple of rough weeks’

Mariah Carey is speaking out after the deaths of her mom Patricia, 87, and sister Alison, 63.

The singer took to Instagram on Sunday to show rehearsal video footage before she embarks on shows in China and Brazil.

“Back at work,” she wrote in the caption. “It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil. Love you!”

Carey, 55, confirmed on Aug. 26 that both her mom and sister died on the same day.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey said in a statement to The Post.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” she continued. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Carey did not reveal any other details about her mom and her sister’s passing.

The “Fantasy” singer was estranged from her sister and her mother for many years before their deaths. She wrote in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, that her relationship with her mother “has caused me so much pain and confusion.”

Additionally, she wrote that when the book was published, she found it “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with Alison or her brother Morgan.

Carey went on to allege her sister abused her as a child. She claimed that Alison burned her by throwing boiling tea on her and, when she was 12, allegedly drugged her with Valium. Alison would have been around 20 at the time.

In 2021, Alison sued Carey over the allegations made in the book, claiming “intentional infliction of immense emotional distress caused by defendant’s heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable and totally unnecessary public humiliation of defendant’s’ already profoundly damaged older sister.”

NBC News found a summons listed in New York, but additional information on the status of that suit could not be found.

Though she was reportedly not in touch with her sister at the end, Carey spent the last week with her mother before her death, TMZ reported.
