It looks like Jimmy Fallon is out of luck.

Last week, the late night talk show host made a public plea to Mark Consuelos, his fellow PEOPLE Magazine’s Sexiest TV Host nominee, asking him to drop out of the competition.

During an episode of The Tonight Show, Fallon argued that fellow nominee Seth Meyers would probably agree to exit the race for his sake. (Mario Lopez is the fourth nominee in the category.)

"Seth would let me have this,” he said. “He would want me to have this. He's a younger dude—let grandpa have one thing.”

Fallon then addressed Consuelos directly, saying, "Mark Consuelos, I'm going to ask you right now, please remove your name from the ballot of PEOPLE's Sexiest Talk Show Host.”

On the Monday, Sept. 23rd episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, Consuelos finally responded to Fallon's request...and it seems he did think about stepping down, at least momentarily.

“I love Jimmy. I really do love Jimmy. He’s such a great guy," Consuelos said.

"And over the weekend, I was considering it. I’m like, 'You know what, maybe I should pledge my support. And I was like, ‘You know, maybe I should come on the show on Monday and say, 'If you’re going to vote for me, you might as well vote for Jimmy.' But then I reconsidered."

"Maybe after I win a bunch," he added.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Kelly Ripa thought her husband was the most deserving nominee.

"I have to say, from a sexiest standpoint, and believe me, I love me some Seth Meyers, I love me some Jimmy Fallon, I love me some Mario Lopez,” she said. “But from a sexiest standpoint, you are the sexiest.”

When Consuelos pointed out that she wasn't "partial," Ripa argued that she was considering the competition from a “zoomed-out perspective.”

"You know me, I love to vote against you. I love you when you're defeated by our trivia callers...nothing thrills me more than you getting taken down a peg or two," she said.

“Anyway, if I don’t win, I would love for Jimmy to win,” Consuelos said.

“You would love for Jimmy to come in second," Ripa responded.
