Maroon 5 is part of the Hot Girl gang, debuts 'Beautiful Mistakes' with Megan Thee Stallion
Maroon 5 just got a bit classy, bougie and ratchet.
The pop group released a new single "Beautiful Mistakes" featuring Megan Thee Stallion Wednesday.
"Beautiful Mistakes" is on brand for Maroon 5, featuring a tranquil sound with a pop beat that the "Savage" artist's rap interlude flows with melodically.
The single will hit home for people who've experienced heartache, with its hints at breaking up with a partner while memories of them still linger. Frontman Adam Levine sings lovelorn lyrics "I fill my days with the way you walk // And fill my nights with broken dreams // I make up lies inside my head // Like one day you'll come back to me."
Megan Thee Stallion's reply? "I know it's hard to let go, I'm the best (I'm the best) // Best you ever had and best you gon' get (Gon' get) // And if we break up, I don't wanna be friends (Be friends) // You're toxic."
In an interview released Wednesday with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Levine said it was a lot of fun collaborating with Megan Thee Stallion (real name Megan Pete) noting he was "cracking jokes the whole time, making her laugh" while shooting the video for the single.
"She's so talented. She is a superstar, but really in the truest sense, man, she's all class, and just we had the best time shooting the video," Levine said.
The band's frontrunner said Pete's feature shows a different side of her artistry.
"I was like the little break where you go to the melodic thing, to be honest, it actually shows this new kind of branch of what she does, and this new versatility that she's going to show everybody right now," Levine said. "I remember when I heard it, I was like, oh, that's big. That's a side of her I had never really heard yet."
Maroon 5 announced the collaboration on Twitter last week, saying they were "excited" to work with Pete who's nominated for four Grammys this year including best new artist.
The last time Maroon 5 collaborated with a female rapper was on their 2018 hit "Girls Like You" with Hot Girl Meg's "WAP" collaborator Cardi B. It spent seven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, becoming the group's fourth No. 1 single after "One More Night," "Moves Like Jagger" and "Makes Me Wonder."
"Cardi was probably one of the biggest features we ever had," Levine told Apple Music.
Megan Thee Stallion released her debut studio album "Good News" in November.
Maroon 5 has six studio albums under their belts and have 75 million in album sales, 400 million singles worldwide and earned gold and platinum certifications in more than 35 countries. Fans are eagerly anticipating news of a seventh album, which has yet to be announced.
Pete's ascent to a household name came at warp speed. She dropped EPs "Make It Hot" and "Tina Snow" in 2017 and 2018 while studying health administration at Texas Southern University. In 2019, she made her first Billboard Hot 100 entry with "Big Ole Freak" and dropped the critically acclaimed "Fever" mixtape, both of which made headlines on the heels of her mother's death from a brain tumor in March 2019.
Last year's "Suga" EP and her "Savage (Remix)" with Beyoncé capitalized on the momentum with songs that epitomize the Hot Girl spirit. In 2020, she was named among Time's 100 most influential people and received major awards at the BET Awards and MTV VMAs.
