“Married… With Children”'s Ted McGinley Regrets Not Keeping In Touch with Cast
"I would say one of my largest faults in life," the actor who played Jefferson D'Arcy on the Fox sitcom said of falling out of contact with his costars
It's been a while since the Bundy family lived next door to the D'Arcys, and Jefferson D'Arcy himself wishes it would have been easier to stay in touch.
In an interview with Fox News, Ted McGinley — who played Jefferson D'Arcy on Married... with Children — admitted that he hasn't remained close with his costars since the show went off the air in 1997, calling it one of his "largest faults in life." However, he explained that he simply drifted apart from the cast.
"I would say one of my largest faults in life, and I just have so many, is that I just keep moving on," said McGinley, who was the love interest of Amanda Bearse's character Marcy, the beloved neighbor to the suburbanite Bundy family at the show's center.

The Hope & Faith star, 65, shared that the reason he fell out of touch with his costars, which included Bearse, Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, David Garrison, Christina Applegate and David Faustino, was because he had a family at the time and doesn't use social media today. "I think mostly because I had young kids and a wife and I went on to work in New York, so I just kept going on," he said. "I don't do social media, per se, so I'm not able to connect like people do. It's not my thing. I just keep going forward."
Despite losing touch with his former costars on the Fox series, which ran for 11 seasons from 1987 to 1997, McGinley said they remain supportive of one another. "If we run into each other, we're very friendly with each other," he noted.
"For example, if Ed O'Neill and I were to run into each other, had a coffee early in the morning, we would have an amazing time, or a beer late at night. It would be fun," he continued. "Same with Amanda. I have run into Amanda."
The sitcom performer added that it's not just his Married... with Children costars, but rather, he has "a difficult connecting all the time," even with his closest friends.
Married with Children followed the working class, marital and coming-of-age struggles of a suburban Chicago family, which included Al Bundy (O'Neill), his wife Peggy (Sagal), their daughter Kelly (Applegate) and son Bud (Faustino).
The network comedy gained a following and remains beloved to this day for its depiction of the working-class family and for its curmudgeon sense of humor.

During a 2020 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Segal, 70, reflected on the moment she realized the show was a smash hit.
"I'll never forget Ed and I went on a promo tour and we went into some parade and there we are dressed as Peg and Al. It was wild," she said. "We were waving and there were so many people there and we thought no one was going to really watch it because it was so irreverent and it was so not like anything else on TV. Which is why I thought I got the job, because I wasn't like anything else on TV."
"Yeah, it really took off," the 8 Simple Rules star continued. "Of course, Fox played it three times a night right in a row. You couldn't miss it."

Although details are slim, fans will soon be able to reconnect with the Dundy family in a forthcoming animated reboot of Married... with Children. According to Deadline, the project was announced as being in the works and shopped to networks in 2022.
Before the hit sitcom returns to fans' screens, they'll be able to learn more about the creation of the original show and various stories from set in the upcoming book Married… with Children vs. The World.
