Martha Stewart Subtly Disses Donald Trump During Onstage Appearance
As it gets closer to November, more and more celebrities are sharing their thoughts on the presidential election and the candidates, including Martha Stewart.
During a recent event, Stewart used a question about her voting plans to slip in a sly dig at former president Donald Trump.
Stewart was at the 2024 Retail Influencer CEO Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when she was asked about the presidential debate occurring that night, as reported by The Daily Beast.
After saying, "Oh, you bet," when asked if she would be watching, Stewart also confidently revealed that she would be voting for "Kamala [Harris]." But that wasn't all Stewart had to say, as she shared her reasons behind supporting Harris, and there might've been one or two pointed jabs at Trump.
She said that she wanted a president "who doesn’t hate New York," and "doesn’t hate democracy," which was a likely reference to Trump's past attempts at overturning the 2020 election and other misgivings.
Stewart and Trump have an interesting history together, as the two faced off on television with two versions of The Apprentice airing at the same time in the early 2000s.
Stewart's show didn't last long and she blamed Trump for the failure, telling Newsweek that she was originally supposed to fire Trump on screen and have her show be the sole Apprentice, but claimed, "Donald really wanted to stay on."
Years later, when Trump ran for president against Hillary Clinton, Stewart shared her endorsement of Clinton amid her doubts about Trump's capabilities.
But once he won the presidency, the cookbook author tried to "give him a chance," saying at an event in Chicago, via the Chicago Tribune, "Guess what? Things change and you can’t be moaning when you can’t change what happened. Go with the flow!”
In 2020, Stewart stayed quite mum about her political views, but in 2024, she appears to be changing her tune once again, openly declaring her support for Harris over Trump.
