Marvel Severs Ties With Jonathan Majors After Guilty Verdict

And just like that, Jonathan Majors has been dropped by Marvel Studios.

After a two-week trial following the March incident between Majors and ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, a Manhattan jury found Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment. The verdict was reached on Monday (Dec. 18) after four hours of deliberation in a span of three days. The jury of six also found Majors not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and not guilty of aggravated harassment in the second degree. If convicted, Majors could face less than one year of jail time. His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 6, 2024.

The 34-year-old rising actor played the time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the Disney+ spinoff series, Loki. The Disney-owned studio had plans to build a story arc around his character, and Majors was set to star in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty slated for a premiere in May 2026. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel “intends to move forward with the film” with Loki creator Michael Waldron working on a new draft. No official word on who will replace Majors or if the studio plans to move forward the film.

Majors’ career ascension began in 2019 with the independent film The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Since then, he’s appeared in numerous notable films like Devotion, Da 5 Bloods, Lovecraft Country, The Harder They Fall, and Creed III. Earlier this year, the Lompoc, Calif. native was dropped by his managers at Entertainment 360 and The Lede Company PR firm.
