Marvel star's marvelous comeback on 'Celebrity Jeopardy!': 'I don't think anybody was expecting that'
Celebrity Jeopardy! returned to primetime on Sunday, and the premiere episode showcased a fantastic comeback. Andy Richter, Simu Liu and Ego Nwodim all competed for the charities of their choosing, and it seemed like Richter was well on his way to winning the competition like he did during his previous appearance on the show in 2009.
“It was in 2009 and I won,” Richter explained. “But I couldn't come back for the semifinals because Conan and I had lost The Tonight Show, and he was prohibited from being on television, so we went on tour in order to keep the band paid.”
Richter led throughout the game, as both Liu and Nwodim commented on how frustrated they were by his success. However, Richter’s success only carried him so far as Liu gambled all $11,600 of his winnings on his Final Jeopardy! wager, which he got right. While Richter started out with $21,100, he incorrectly answered the final clue and lost $2,200.
“I don't think anybody was expecting that,” said Liu, after realizing he won. “Oh, my God.”

Viewers were just as shocked as Liu, with one person tweeting, “That episode of Celebrity Jeopardy! shows just how important Final Jeopardy! is because Andy was in the lead the whole time but got the final question wrong and Simu had enough to cover when he bet all.”
Richter echoed viewers’ sentiments, telling Liu, “That's Jeopardy!. The final question, if you don't know the final question, you can just go home.”
“A lot of wow here!” exclaimed host Mayim Bialik.
It was a marvelous win for the star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, even if he almost immediately regretted his success.
“Oh, my God, I have to come back?!” Liu asked.
“This is why we say never throw in the towel, Simu,” Bialik said. “You did it.”
Celebrity Jeopardy! airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
