The debut trailer for Wonder Man hits a surprisingly comedic tone.

It stars Yahya Abdul Mateen II as Simon Williams, an aspiring actor angling to play the part of Wonder Man. In the teaser, which contains the first ever publicly revealed footage for the upcoming Disney+ series, we’re introduced to Williams in a casting call.

“Simon Williams, reading for Wonder Man,” says Mateen II in front of a packed room of casting agents before the bright yellow Wonder Man logo appears. Then comes the biggest reveal: Ben Kingsley.

We last saw Kingsley as actor Trevor Slattery in Shang-Chi. Given the themes of Wonder Man, it makes perfect sense for him to play the mentor role to Williams, but from the clip he seems to be doing more harm than good - at one point we see the pair cavort around town in a golf buggy.

“We both have a lot riding on this,” Kingsley tells Williams, presumably referring to his own career as an actor rather than an existential, superpowered threat, In fact, there’s no superhero shenanigans at all in the trailer, but there’s enough time between now and release to show off Wonder Man’s powers, which include an ionic body with super strength, stamina, reflexes, and virtual immunity to all physical damage.
