The Marvels: Teyonah Parris Details Secret Beast Cameo
The Marvels star Teyonah Parris revealed she was just as surprised as MCU fans when X-Men’s Beast appeared in the mid-credits scene.
“I also went wild [seeing Beast at the end of The Marvels] cause I’m like, ‘Wait a minute! That’s not who I filmed with!’ And I had no clue until it aired,” Parris said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote the MCU movie’s release on Disney+.
Parris continued by explaining how the scene initially used a regular actor during production and kept the X-Men cameo a secret from her. “When we filmed it, it was an actor who was very kind, very nice, and he was dressed in a lab coat. He looked like a normal, regular doctor. No one said, ‘By the way, this is going to be a little surprise.’ I had zero clue. I found out with everyone else.”
In The Marvels, Hank McCoy/Beast was played by Kelsey Grammer who originated the character in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. While Nicholas Hoult went on to play the younger Beast in the prequel era X-Men installments, Grammer reprised the role in a tiny cameo at the end of 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Not only was Grammer “pleased” about his Marvel return, but he also expressed confidence that MCU fans will see more Beast very soon.
“It is my hope that you will [see Beast again],” Grammer said. “I can say with a certain amount of confidence that you will. I would love to.”
