Mary J. Blige To Produce ‘Family Affair’ Film On Lifetime
Mary J. Blige is once again bringing her music to life with an original movie. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is set to executive produce Family Affair for Lifetime as well as additional new titles with a new multi-picture deal. Exclusively reported by Variety, the film is inspired by the 2001 song of the same name and will debut in 2025 as part of the network’s Voices of a Lifetime slate.
Family Affair furthers the story introduced in 2023’s Real Love and continued in Strength Of A Woman. Both Ajiona Alexus and Da’Vinchi will reprise their leading roles.
The official logline reads as follows:
“Kendra and Ben move out of the city in hopes of finally building a life together. With all their family around and inserted in their lives, tensions rise as they struggle with fertility issues and Kendra tries to find her footing with Ben’s son Miles. Their relationship reaches a boiling point when Ben secretly helps his brother, and Kendra returns to the city and an old friend comes back into her life. The family must come together to help Kendra and Ben save their relationship and stay true to their real love.”
Family Affair, which is a working title, is executive produced by Blige via her Blue Butterfly banner, as well as Jordan Davis and John Davis of Davis Entertainment who also produced the two aforementioned made-for-TV movies.
Additionally, executive producers also include Bruce Miller and Milana Edwards-Brooks for Blue Butterfly, as well as Alexus and Da’Vinchi. Front Street Pictures produces, and Troy Scott directs from a script written by Rachel Ingram.
