‘The Masked Singer’ spoilers: Who is Ice King?

Ice King made his debut on the 12th season of “The Masked Singer” on Nov. 13, 2024, as a member of Group C. The frozen vocalist’s first song on Fox’s reality TV show was “Tonight Tonight” by Hot Chelle Rae, and he had the four panelists (Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora) guessing such famous names as Diplo, Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Pete Wentz, Joe Jonas, and MrBeast.

Masked Ambassador Clues
Ice King’s ambassador is Hanson, aka Russian Dolls from Season 5, who states, “He topped the charts globally, sold out the largest stadiums, and was given the royal treatment like he was one of The Beatles … We know first-hand just how good you are. After all, we did help you get your start.” Diplo has a unique history with Hanson, as he hacked the Jonas Brothers‘ Instagram page in 2019 and posted a photo of Hanson with the comment, “Never forget the original Jonas Brothers.”

Audio Clues
Here is what Ice King has to say about himself: “Yeah, pretty cool, right? I ruled the school. But, Hollywood can be a little cold, so I ran away and went into a deep freeze that lasted for years. But now, I’ve found the courage to come back and stand in the spotlight once again. I’m here as an ice breaker, to bring the focus back to what I love most, singing! And it’s nice to be able to ease my way back into music behind this mask.” Diplo went into a “deep freeze” of sorts in 2020 when he was accused of sexual abuse by an anonymous woman; he responded by filing a restraining order and accused her of harassment and stalking.
Visual Clues
On-screen hints during Ice King’s video package include the following: a tower of speakers, a chocolate cake pop, a passport, a snow globe, and palm trees. Obviously, the tower of speakers ties directly to Diplo because he’s a DJ, and the passport is relevant because he’s traveled all around the world. The cake pop could be a sly allusion to Duplo, the German chocolate company from Ferrero.
In-Person Clues
Following his performance of “Tonight Tonight,” the Men in Black bring out a sweatshirt that says, “Drop the Fire Beat.” Ice King responds, “I’ve traveled the world dropping fire beats in front of massive crowds, but tonight has been the most lit.” Again, that line is a direct reference to his day job as a DJ who sells out shows all around the globe.
