‘The Masked Singer’ spoilers: Who is Strawberry Shortcake?

Strawberry Shortcake made her debut on the 12th season of “The Masked Singer” on Nov. 13, 2024, as a member of Group C. The fruity chanteuse’s first song on Fox’s reality TV show was “Slow Burn” by Kacey Musgraves, and she had the four panelists (Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora) guessing such famous names as Reneé Rapp, Lana Del Ray, and Rachel Zegler. The following week, she performed “Wrecking Ball” and they guessed Chloe Fineman, Hilary Duff, and Ashley Tisdale.

Masked Ambassador Clues

Strawberry Shortcake’s ambassador is Haley Orrantia, aka Ringmaster from Season 7, who states, “I’m so stoked to introduce my friend. It’s perfect she’s making her debut tonight, because she’s truly a festival favorite … You’ve been by my side through some of my biggest milestones, and now I’m so happy to be here for you. I truly believe you can take the cake.” AJ played Lainey Lewis in the hit ABC comedy “The Goldbergs.” Lainey was best friends with Erica Goldberg, played by Orrantia.

Audio Clues

First week: Here is what Strawberry Shortcake has to say about herself: “When I was young, I dreamed of going to a music festival, but one with me in the lineup. Even though I believed I was headline material, I sat on the sidelines watching everyone else have all the fun, for years! Until one day, I got the call to open one of the most iconic ones. It was the sweetest day ever. A slow burn, but the best things in life are worth the wait.” AJ has has performed in many music festivals with her sister, Aly. The duo goes by Aly & AJ and they’ve taken the stage at Lollapalooza, Beachlife, and Bumbershoot, just to name a few. AJ is also no stranger to film festivals, with movies premiering at the Los Angeles Film Festival and Napa Film Festival.

Second week: On “Miley Cyrus Night,” Strawberry Shortcake revealed that she and Miley had the same recipe for success. Both started out as Disney stars, with AJ making her debut in 2006’s “Cow Belles.” She also said the two “even hobnobbed with the same famous brothers.” Both have ties to the Jonas bros, and AJ once even admitted she shared a “sloppy” first kiss with Joe.

Visual Clues

First week: On-screen hints during Strawberry Shortcake’s video package include the following: clouds, stars, hearts, rainbows, a kitten, Instagram pics, sunny sunglasses, exclamation points, a speaker, mushrooms, and an ice cream cone. The bulk of these colorful clues could be a referencing AJ’s songs she recorded with her sister. Some of Aly & AJ’s tunes include “Heart,” “Star Maps,” and “Walking on Sunshine.” Oh, they even recorded their own version of “Slow Burn,” the Musgraves hit Strawberry Shortcake covered on “The Masked Singer.”

Second week: We see Strawberry Shortcake pick up an apple, and the actress starred in the movie “Apple of My Eye” in 2017. A coffee mug with a skull and bones references AJ’s performance in 2009’s “The Lovely Bones” opposite Saoirse Ronan.

In-Person Clues

First week: Following her performance of “Slow Burn,” the Men in Black bring out a T-shirt that says “Break a Leg” with theater masks. Strawberry Shortcake responds, “My breakthrough role showed the world my potential.” This could have many meanings, but the singer has certainly had multiple breakthroughs as an actress. Her first TV role was in the soap opera “Passions.” She and her sister made their Disney debut in “Cow Belles,” and the following year AJ starred in MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16: The Movie.”

Second week: On “Miley Cyrus Night,” the Men in Black brought out boxing gloves. Strawberry Shortcake said, “Miley has always been in my corner. She was even by my side when I made my debut.” Both stars appeared on the Disney channel, and Michalka was even considered for a role on “Hannah Montana.”
