‘The Masked Singer’ spoilers: Who is Woodpecker?
Are you as happy to see “The Masked Singer” back on TV as we are? As much as we love watching the over-the-top performances on “The Masked Singer,” we get even more pleasure from figuring out the names of the celebrities competing. That is especially true if we can crack the code as to who is hiding inside a costume before the four judges (Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Rita Ora, Robin Thicke).
Season 12 of “The Masked Singer” is shaping up to be the most competitive yet. The producers packed the line-up with 17 stars. One of our favorites in Week 1 was disguised as Woodpecker and she wowed the crowd with her cover of “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus. She returned in Week 2 and delivered a scorching performance of “Holding Out For a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler.

We’ve been reviewing the clues and her performance on September 25 and her return engagement on October 2 and have all your “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question, “Who is Woodpecker”?
We think that Woodpecker is Marsai Martin, who first came to fame as a child actor on “Blackish.” Don’t agree with our best guess? Consider how the clues line up with Marsai Martin’s life story, beginning with the appearance of her ambassador Jenifer Lewis (Season 11 Miss Cleocatra). Lewis declared, “I have known Woodpecker since her start.” Lewis played her grandmother in that long-running comedy series.
Lewis revealed that Woodpecker is both a mogul (Martin produced the movie “Little”) and a CEO (Martin launched a hugely successful nail brand, Mari, three years ago). And she teased that Woodpecker is pals with Beyonce (as is Martin). The final clue from Lewis was a framed “World Record”; Martin became the youngest ever producer of a studio film in PGA history when she hit it big with “Little.”
Among the visual clues was some sports tape (Martin is dating NASCAR driver Rajah Caruth); a framed sign that reads “Family” (another reference to “Blackish”) and an S.A.T. score card (Martin’s character, Diane, was super smart).
In week two, the Men in Black brought out Kevin Bacon’s iconic “Footloose” footwear and Woodpecker admitted, “Another bird from ‘The Masked Singer’ family, and also mine, shares their style-ISH obsession of shoes with me.” Remember, Jennifer Lewis and Marsai Martin were co-stars on “Blackish.”
Woodpecker revealed, “As a young chick, while most kids were playing in treehouses, I was planting roots in Hollywood. ” Martin was only five when she booked her first national commercial and had just turned 10 when “Blackish” premiered.
