‘Masters of the Universe’: Camila Mendes Nabs Key Role of Teela in Amazon’s He-Man Movie
Camila Mendes, the actress perhaps best known for playing Veronica in the CW series Riverdale, has nabbed the key role of Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action take on Masters of the Universe.
Mendes will star opposite Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You), who is playing the role of He-Man in the adaptation of the popular toy brand first introduced in the 1980s. Travis Knight, the founder of stop-motion powerhouse Laika who directed the company’s Kubo and the Two Strings, is helming the film.

Plot details are being kept sheathed, but the concept centers on the character of Prince Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into the muscular He-Man and is imbued with superhuman strength and abilities. With his assortment of allies, he defends the planet from the evil Skeletor and his armies.
Teela is the captain of the royal guard and the adopted daughter of Man-at-Arms, the royal family’s inventor of weapons. Depending on the animated series, she at times has suspected Prince Adam of being the heroic He-Man and has at times been his romantic interest.
The screenplay is by Chris Butler, following initial drafts written by David Callaham, and brothers Aaron and Adam Nee.
Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing the feature that is to be released in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.
The casting in the high-profile, big-budget production in a recognizable role is a coup for Mendes, who screen tested two weeks ago along with rising actresses Clara Rugaard, Alexandra Shipp and Quintessa Swindell.
Mendes broke out with the role of Veronica on the series Riverdale, which ended its run last year. Her recent credits include the 2024 features Upgraded and Música, in addition to previously collaborating with Robinson on the 2022 Netflix teen black comedy Do Revenge. This fall, she is shooting a leading role in Sony’s reboot of horror movie I Know What You Did Last Summer.
She is repped by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Hansen Jacobsen.
