Mathew Knowles’ Memoir Set To Become A Film And Limited Series

Mathew Knowles is set to adapt his 2017 memoir, Racism From the Eyes of a Child, into a feature film and limited series.

According to Variety, the music manager partnered with Say Unkel Entertainment for the release and together, they’re currently shopping the feature. Robert Unkel, a former vice president of programming at 20th Century Fox, confirmed to the outlet that “the feature script based on Knowles’ book is complete and ready to take to market.” The executive will oversee the project’s development with partner Howard Kazanjian, who served as one of the producers on the original Star Wars trilogy.

The film will focus on the first half of Knowles’ book that centers around him growing up during the race riots in Alabama in the early ’60s. The now 71-year-old was one of six Black students who attended an all-white schools and participated in peaceful protests, despite being once burned by a cattle-prod. At one point, he was even arrested four times in one day.

In addition to covering Knowles’ experience, it also spotlights how “the giants” like Martin Luther King Jr., Albert Turner, Ralph Abernathy, and his own parents including his mother who was Coretta Scott King’s classmate fought for equality.

“These are the men who made me proud and women who taught me to fight back,” Knowles explained to Variety.

Back in March 2022, it was revealed that Knowles would also be releasing a film, similar to the Will Smith-led King Richard, where he’d discuss managing his daughters, Beyoncé and Solange while married to Tina Knowles. However, there’s no update on the status of that project and no word on what the limited series will center around.
