How Matt Damon Could Get Dragged Into Ben Affleck's Divorce From Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have been fighting their divorce out through the media with sources close to them sharing their sides of the story. However, a bigger fight might be ahead in court because the former dynamic duo reportedly didn’t have a prenuptial agreement.

California is a community property state which means any income earned during the marriage is considered to be a part of a couple’s shared assets. While fans are very well aware that Affleck and Lopez are selling their Beverly Hills estate for a whopping $68 million, it gets trickier when it comes to their business holdings. Affleck started a production company with Matt Damon just four months after he married Lopez. Artists Equity and Damon might get dragged into the divorce proceedings because there is no prenup agreement, per TMZ.

Damon’s investment in the production company wouldn’t be at stake, but Affleck’s share certainly could be an issue. During the time of their marriage, Artists Equity produced Air, Unstoppable, The Instigators, Small Things Like These, and The Accountant 2. Lopez could ask for her entitled share of profits from those films, just like Affleck could do the same for Atlas, This Is Me… Now, The Mother, Shotgun Wedding, and Marry Me.

There still is a possibility that Lopez and Affleck did have a prenuptial agreement which would keep Damon off their divorce radar — there is a legal loophole. “Jennifer was not required to disclose on the court forms whether she entered into a premarital agreement with Ben, so no conclusions should be reached about the existence or non-existence of a prenup,” celebrity divorce attorney Christopher Melcher explained to Fox News Digital. “It would be par for the course for a couple like this to have a premarital agreement in place.” He seems to think that because of their “significant wealth,” it would be unusual for them not to have worked with their lawyers on a legal document ahead of their 2022 wedding.

That just might be the case since Affleck was seen dining out with his Boston BFF on Aug. 25 and things looked casual and happy between them — not a financial worry to be found between the two buddies. The one thing that is clear in Affleck’s divorce from Lopez is that reconciliation will not be happening — Bennifer 2.0 is officially over.
