Matthew Macfadyen suffered from imposter syndrome while playing one of his most popular roles.

White promoting his latest film Deadpool & Wolverine on CBS Mornings, the 49-year-old actor admitted that he “didn’t really” enjoy his time making 2005’s Pride and Prejudice because he “felt a bit miscast" as Mr. Darcy.

“I feel bad saying that,” Macfadyen told the outlet. “There were moments I had a good time, but I wish I’d enjoyed it more.”

The Succession star struggled to enjoy his time filming the period drama —based on Jane Austen’s beloved novel of the same name — because he was plagued with worry, he said.

"I wish I was less worried about it,” he said. “I just felt a bit miscast or I'm not dishy enough or I'm not, you know …. but it worked out.”

But Macfadyen’s stint as the broody love interest to Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Bennet is still stealing hearts nearly two decades later, which he said is what makes all of his stress worth it.

“I think probably the most flattering thing that happens to me now is people say, ‘Were you Mr. Darcy?’ and it's a good 20 years later,” he said. “So I think, ‘I can't be aging that badly.’ ”

A particularly famous Pride and Prejudice fan, Ayo Edebiri, recently spoke out about how Macfadyen starring as the bushy-sideburned Englishman impacted her.

While winning her first Emmy Award in January, The Bear star got to meet Macfadyen — and revealed to him that he was her childhood crush.

After the ceremony, the comedian, 28, told the actor — who also took home an Emmy — that growing up, she was once grounded for having his face on her computer screensaver.

In the sweet interaction, which was captured by Entertainment Tonight, she explained that her father saw the photo of Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy on her computer and “was like, ‘Who’s this man?’ ”

Imagining Edebiri's dad's response, Macfadyen chimed in, “Who’s this guy in the coat?” as Edebiri added that Mr. Darcy had “beautiful hair.”

Macfadyen later admitted to ET that he was both amused and impressed by the sweet story. “She was grounded because she had a screensaver of me as Mr. Darcy on her laptop,” he told the outlet. “Good parenting. It’s good parenting.”

“I hadn’t heard that, but that’s good,” he added.
