In 2022, Perry came out with a memoir titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir, which detailed his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction alongside his rise to fame. In the book, he recalled a near-death experience at the age of 49 when his colon burst from overuse of opioids. The actor spent two weeks in a coma, and another five months recovering in the hospital.
As the world continues to grieve, new details have emerged throughout a police investigation. Five people have since been arrested and charged with causing Perry’s death, including his longtime personal assistant, Kenneth “Kenny” Iwamasa. US District Attorney Martin Estrada said that Perry relapsed from his substance abuse issues last fall and the five people charged with his death “took advantage to profit for themselves.”
What were Matthew Perry’s last words?
“Shoot me up with a big one”
On the day of Perry’s death, October 28 2023, per Daily Mail, Perry asked his assistant to “shoot me up with a big one,” meaning a large dose of ketamine, and to prepare his jacuzzi. Iwamasa was not medically trained to inject his boss with ketamine. Their conversation happened merely hours before Perry was found face down in his hot tub after Iwamasa left the house to run errands. Prosecutors allege Perry received shots of ketamine at around 8:30 am and 12:45 pm on the day he died. Documents also revealed that Perry had twice been found unconscious in his home.
Matthew Perry’s final Instagram
Matthew Perry’s last public words were shared ominously from a hot tub days before he was found dead after an apparent drowning. The Friends star shared an Instagram post from a jacuzzi with the caption: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.” The comments section is now filled with messages of sympathy and heartache.
“I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since I heard the news yesterday. I genuinely feel like I’ve lost a friend. You were the soundtrack of my teens, the constant in my lowest moments, kept me company during those 4am night feeds and the rainy days stuck at home raising four kids. I’m so sad that you were there for us through all of the highs and lows and never knew that we were always there for you too,” one fan wrote.
Another said: “I hope you know wherever you are now, how much we all loved you. You were a soul that touched the hearts and souls of so many ‘strangers’ that loved you deeply and are now devastated [sic] because they lost a friend. Not many of us are able to do so, but you did. Smile Matty and laugh with the angels. Thank you for being there for all of us. Love you Chandler Bing. “
TMZ first reported the actor’s passing. The publication wrote that the actor had been found on Saturday, October 28 in his jacuzzi by his assistant, who had been sent out on errands after Matthew had returned home from a game of pickleball.
