The Beast in Me stars Danes as celebrated author Aggie Wiggs, who has retreated from public life following the tragic death of her son. When Rhys’ character moves in next door, though, she discovers fresh inspiration and “finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth — chasing his demons while fleeing her own — in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly.”
Howard Gordon, who worked with Danes on Homeland, serves as showrunner, with Gabe Rotter (The X-Files) serving as writer and creator. Danes’ casting was first announced back in March.
Rhys is best known for playing Soviet spy Philip Jennings in the Cold War drama The Americans, which ran for six seasons on FX. He earned three Emmy nominations for the role, with a win in 2018. He recently played the title role in HBO’s Perry Mason, which ended last year after two seasons. His other TV credits include Brothers & Sisters and Girls.
