I was watching-slash-stress-watching Tyler Perry's Divorce in the Black on Amazon Prime Video, which stars Meagan, and I wondered how much of this story is too close for comfort.
The movie also stars Cory Hardrict, Tia Mowry's ex-husband. They finalized their divorce in April 2023.
Richard Lawson, Tina Knowles's ex-husband, is also in the film. Tina filed for divorce last summer.
It didn't feel like an accident that Divorce in the Black starred three actors with high-profile divorces. But, based on Meagan's interview with People, the tumultuous fictional divorce in the film couldn't be further from her reality.
Meagan, who is currently dating Jonathan Majors, married DeVon in 2012. They announced their divorce in December 2021, but things are still good between them.
Meagan said DeVon is "a beautiful human being regardless" of their split.

"When I say regardless, it's not that he did anything. I mean regardless of the marriage ending and me disappointing and being disappointed and all that," Meagan said. "What I will say is I think that we gave a lot and we got a lot. There's nothing that I regret about my marriage, and there's nothing I regret about the person that I married."
Meagan is "thankful" for the experience and her time with DeVon. "I'm actually very, very thankful for that experience and how it's helped me grow. I'm thankful for what I gave to him, and he's thankful for it. And I'm thankful for what he gave to me, and he knows that I'm thankful for it."
According to Meagan, DeVon is "a wonderful human being, a beautiful human being."
Meagan said following their breakup she "still was incredibly hurt. I still was incredibly devastated. I was incredibly angry, as I'm sure that he was as well."
But, despite those natural feelings, she and DeVon are "still friends" because "there's still genuine love."
Meagan added, "When he finds his person, I'm going to be happy for him, and I want that for him."
So, I'm relieved that everything seared into my brain from Divorce in the Black is entirely fictional and just from Tyler Perry's absurd mind.
