No "Weekend Update" for Bennett. He's all about "The Daily Planet."

Who is Steve Lombard of DC Comics, you ask? You'll be very familiar with him by the time the new Superman movie rolls around next year.

Saturday Night Live alum Beck Bennett is playing the comic book character in the upcoming film, director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed on social media platform Threads on Wednesday.

So, who is Mr. Lombard? He's a sports reporter for Metropolis' premier newspaper, The Daily Planet, which employs Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) as journalists, as well as Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) as a photographer. They will all be fearlessly led by editor-in-chief Perry White (Wendell Pierce).

In some iterations of the comics, Steve is a writer. In others, he's an editor. In all, he's kind of a dick. In the most recent incarnations of the character, he also has a douchey mustache. So this jibes well with Bennett's courtier of comedy personas.
