Meet Matthew Goode's Wife, Sophie Dymoke
As A Discovery of Witches finds a new fanbase thanks to its release on Netflix, many are curious as to what star Matthew Goode, who plays vampire Matthew Clairmont, is up to in real life. Since wrapping A Discovery of Witches, Goode starred in The Offer as Robert Evans, Freud's Last Session as C.S. Lewis, and horror movie Abigail. He lives in Surrey, England, with his wife, Sophie Dymoke, and their three children.
"My wife is a very good judge of character and has been in rooms with very famous people, and most of the time she will come back to me and say 'shall we go to the bar, they’re a bit of an ass,'" Goode said in an interview.
Here, get to know Matthew Goode's wife, Sophie:
She worked in the fashion industry.
She attended University of Wales, Swansea, where she got a Bachelor of Science degree in economics. After graduating, she worked for Donna Karan, Alice and Olivia, Diesel, and Vince, among other brands.
Matthew and Sophie met through his neighbor.
They met in 2005. "She was sitting on my doorstep when I came home from filming in Poland or somewhere. That’s a good few years ago. She was best friends with my neighbour Emily in Clapham. She’d locked herself out. I was a bit flustered and quite tired. The way I remember it I opened the door and carried her bag up. But apparently I shrugged my shoulders, didn’t speak to her, opened the door but didn’t carry her suitcase upstairs," he recalled in an interview with the Scottish Herald. She didn't hold the bad start against him: "We got together at Emily's wedding and we've lasted longer than that marriage."
She's a "confident traveler."
"My wife is a much more confident traveler, because she used to be in the fashion industry," Goode told Condé Nast Traveler. "When I travel, it’s usually for work and whenever I arrive in a city, I’m more concerned with the character I am playing than anything else although, obviously, we get days off I like to go to lovely restaurants and bookstores. But I’m more confident traveling with my wife by my side."
Sophie is an equestrian.
The key to a good marriage, Goode once shared, is "a good cellar. Somewhere you can store wine. And not being in each other's pockets the whole time. You have to have something for yourself. I've always had a hobby. When the kids go to school, I go fishing. Sophie used to ride a lot when she was a child and she recently got back into that. So we have a bit of fun on the side."
She's a mom of three.
Matthew and Sophie have three children: Matilda (b. 2009), Teddie (b. 2013), and Ralph (b. 2015).
