Meghan McCain calls Whoopi Goldberg 'dismissive' during tense conversation about Mitt Romney
The impeachment trial may have ended, but the clashes over politics continue at the Hot Topics table on The View.
Meghan McCain and Whoopi Goldberg faced-off over Sen. Mitt Romney’s decision to break ranks with his party and vote to convict President Trump during his impeachment trial.
Goldberg praised Romney’s move, saying “I’m gonna give faith in him like I gave to your dad,” to which McCain replied, “With all due respect, Romney is nothing like my dad.”
Clarifying her comment, Goldberg said, “I don’t agree with Mitt Romney but he stood up in a way that nobody else has except for your dad.”
McCain continued to object to her co-host’s comparisons of Romney to McCain’s father, the late Sen. John McCain, and warned Goldberg: “I’m just saying don’t put all your bets on Romney right now. He will break your heart like he always does.”
“I am 63 years old. I have been going through this with these people for years,” said Goldberg.
McCain noted, “I’m 35 years old.”
“And you’re half my age so hear what I know,” responded Goldberg.
McCain fired back, “That’s very dismissive. I don’t understand what my age has to do with my political perspective right now. I just don’t think it’s very nice.”
Goldberg explained that she felt it was McCain who was being dismissive, sharing “This has nothing to do personally with you. This has to with the fact that when you say to me ‘don’t put all your eggs in the basket,’ that’s dismissive to me.”
Viewers of the exchange took to Twitter with their reactions, and some said they agreed with McCain that Goldberg was indeed dismissive of her:
Megan!!! So love you! I agree about the flip flopper! But girl you need another Republican in your corner up there. Your strong but out numbered!! Hate how you are gained up on! I respect you and your family. You have lived military and politics, your entire life. Thank you

I think Meghan gets talked over alot...but noone ever wants to talk about that. I’m tired of her getting slammed, her lone viewpoint is the the purpose of her presence on the show.

But others said Goldberg was right and that it was McCain who was dismissive:
@TheView McCain just has to throw toxic material on to every discussion. She says others are dismissive and she’s dismissive all the time. She says people interrupt her and she interrupts all the time. It’s unpleasant. She’s a princess.

Meghan needs to listen more, talk over her co-hosts less and being dismissive “she is the daughter of McCain, has been around politics all her life” She still could learn a thing or two. However she or others feel about Romney, he stood up when it counted.
