Meghan McCain claps back at body shamers: ‘I get called Miss Piggy all the time. It doesn’t bother me’
The View co-host Meghan McCain has had it with body shaming, and didn’t hold back about it during Friday’s episode. “I’m really comfortable with my body.” said McCain. “The fat shaming didn’t work on me. I get called ‘Miss Piggy’ all the time. It doesn’t bother me. I don’t care.”
Her comments came during a conversation about whether it’s offensive to call another woman “skinny.” Co-host Joy Behar felt strongly that the descriptor is a compliment, and she didn’t believe it should ever be considered an insult. “I have never called someone a ‘skinny b****’ and had them be insulted. They say ‘thank you,’” said Behar.
Sunny Hostin revealed that Behar greets her daily with the phrase, “Good morning, skinny b****”,” which led McCain to remark, “I wish we would just stop reducing women to our bodies. I’m so sick of it.” She continued, “No one’s calling me ‘skinny bitch’ and it’s never stopped me from getting a job or the man that I’ve wanted,” McCain said to applause from the studio audience.
Viewers on Twitter had a lot to say about the topic, with many supporting McCain’s message of body positivity:

Some agreed with Behar that being called “skinny” shouldn’t be considered an insult, and even expressed similar confusion as to how it could be misinterpreted:
Calling someone skinny or slim isn't offensive. It is consider a complement, if you know how to use the appropriate words to say it.

How is getting called skinny offensive?
— carter (@carterchapman) May 17, 2019
The vast majority of skinny ppl don't get offended if you call them skinny. I personally know a lot of them whose nickname is skinny (flaco/flaca in Spanish). Most overweight (gordo/gorda) ppl do get offended; particularly women.

Others made their view very clear, letting the world know how damaging the word can be:
"Skinny" is as much an insult as "fat". They're both relative terms, and imply "not normal".

I was teased about being skinny in school. It was horrible. Fat shaming....skinny shaming is the same. Just done to make someone feel bad about themselves.

@TheView @JoyVBehar I grew up extremely skinny and the verbal jokes had serious affect on my confidence, tried desperately to hide my body most of my youth. . Not feeling “normal” was painful. It’s body shaming no matter your impression or envy
