Meghan McCain thinks one person is to blame for all these quickie engagements: President Trump
Over the past month, quickie engagements have become a trend among celebrities: Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson got engaged after dating for only weeks, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin followed suit after rekindling their romance, and now Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra reportedly are planning on walking down the aisle.
The View co-host Meghan McCain might lack the star power of Bieber and Co., but she married her boyfriend, Ben Domenech, relatively quickly too. And on Friday morning, she shared that she thinks something — or rather someone — is responsible for all these sudden engagements.
“I have this theory,” McCain said. “Trump’s America makes everything more intense and heightened because we’re constantly talking about the threat of nuclear war that we want to be nurtured by each other.”
The chaos of “Trump’s America” is often blamed for a lot of things — fake news, extreme partisanship, giant orange “Trump baby” balloons — but not the joys of marriage. But McCain made a good point with a personal story about her husband.
“I would not have gotten together with my husband if Trump didn’t become the [Republican] nominee and [didn’t run] for president,” she said.

McCain recalled crying after seeing Trump’s nomination at the Republican National Convention. She was comforted by her then-boyfriend Domenech — who then brought her P.F. Chang’s — which led her to think: “Maybe I can marry this guy.”
Joy Behar usually doesn’t agree with McCain on The View — she’s liberal, McCain’s conservative — but this time she did. And she provided even deeper historical context, saying that she was married for the first time following President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. “It was like the world’s falling apart,” she said. “Let’s cling to each other.”
But co-host Sunny Hostin had a simpler, more romantic analysis of Jonas and Chopra’s rumored engagement.
“Maybe these two are just in love,” said Hostin. “You see someone across the room and you’re like, ‘Yeahhh.’”
