Melania Trump sends support to students amid coronavirus pandemic: 'You've been so strong'
First lady Melania Trump is sending support to the nation's students.
While taking part in CNN's weekly global town hall on the coronavirus Thursday, the first lady applauded scholars for "keeping up your studies" and "learning in new ways" amid the pandemic.
"Over the past two months, I know you have had to make many changes in your life," Trump, dressed in a black coat, said in a pre-recorded video. "Many of you had to attend classes in your home and haven’t been able to see your friends."
The onset of COVID-19 abruptly ended the in-person school year for many students across the nation in March as stay-at-home orders and online schooling became the new normal over safety concerns. That meant the cancellation of proms, graduations and other milestones that students look forward to.
"These changes were not easy, but you have been so strong and I am proud of the examples you have become," Trump said. "Your determination to get through this will define your generation for years to come."

Trump expressed gratitude to students who are "helping your families, your friends, your communities and our country to stay healthy and safe during these unusual times."
The first lady encouraged scholars to "take care of yourself" and "make sure you are being your best self," mirroring the language of her Be Best initiative that focuses on major issues facing children.
"Please know the president and I are with you during these challenging times, and we continue to do everything we can to support you," Trump concluded her message.
Her remarks were the first public comments Trump has made since the pandemic started.
