“Melrose Place” Revival in the Works with Original Stars Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga

The series would follow the former neighbors as they reunite to mourn the death of one of their own

Melrose Place might be returning to television again.

Over 30 years since the premiere of the popular '90s drama, a revival is reportedly in development at CBS Studios and being shopped around to networks and streamers with three of the show's original stars attached: Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga.

News of the potential series was first reported by Deadline. According to the outlet, the new Melrose Place would follow the cherished characters from the original, picking up when the former neighbors and friends reunite to honor "one of their dearest friends [who] dies suddenly."

"The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective," reads a summary, per Variety.

Darren Star created Melrose Place as a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210. The show — following a group of residents in a fictional apartment courtyard complex in West Hollywood, California — ran for seven seasons on Fox, from 1992 to 1999.

Thomas Calabro, Josie Bissett, Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Grant Show, Doug Savant, Vanessa Williams and Amy Locane were all part of the original cast. Zuniga, 61, joined halfway through season 1 as Jo Reynolds, a photographer on the run from her abusive husband.

Locklear, 62 — who played Amanda Woodward, the ruthless and merciless boss of Thorne-Smith's character — first appeared in season 1 as a guest role. She became a regular by season 2, though she remained billed as a "special guest star" for the remainder of the show's run.

Leighton, 55, also started on the show as a guest star in the nighttime soap's first two seasons before being upgraded to a series regular in season 3. She played Sydney Andres, the trouble-making younger sister of Bissett's character.

Other actors who became familiar faces on Melrose Place over the years included Marcia Cross, Lisa Rinna, Jack Wagner, Kelly Rutherford, Kristin Davis, Janet Carroll, Alyssa Milano, Rob Estes and Brooke Langton.

In 2009, CBS Studios resurrected Melrose Place for a revival series, following a new group of neighbors, featuring characters played by Katie Cassidy, Colin Egglesfield, Shaun Sipos and Ashlee Simpson Ross. The show, which aired on The CW, included cameos from several OG stars including Locklear, Leighton and Zuniga, but only lasted for one season.

It's worth noting that Leighton's character was killed in both the original show and the 2009 revival.

The new Melrose Place is being written by Lauren Gussis, who created and executive produced Netflix's Insatiable. More original cast members are expected to join the new series, Deadline reports.
