Memphis food truck Smurfey's Smokehouse BBQ & Breakfast opens a takeout shop
Smurfey’s Smokehouse BBQ & Breakfast now has a brick-and-mortar location in Memphis.
On the menu are all the food truck favorites and more, owners Kendrick and Christina Westbrook said.
The new to-go concept restaurant opened its doors Jan. 12 at 149 Madison Ave. It’s located in the space that was most recently Fam, a fast-casual Asian and sushi restaurant.
“Food and feeding people have been my ministry, and then God dropped this opportunity in my lap,” said Kendrick of the reason behind opening a storefront. His food truck opened in 2012.
Kendrick said to think of the concept as a ghost kitchen, where people can order online or in-person to take their meals to go. Guests will be able to order from delivery services like Uber and DoorDash, or come in to pick up their order.
“Think of it as a food truck with a better kitchen,” Kendrick said.

Smurfey’s food truck has made a name for itself serving tasty barbecue in unconventional ways.
Kendrick’s Loaded Potatoes and Barbecue Nachos are customer favorites. The No. 1 seller is the Chicken and Veggie Potato. A garlic butter seasoned potato is layered with Smurfey's sauce, cheese, chopped smoked chicken and a vegetable medley of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots.
When asked about the ingredients in his secret Smurfey’s sauce, Kendrick said: “The secret? It’s love!”
Smurfey’s also has several vegetarian options on the new menu. Potatoes or fries can be ordered “loaded” — topped with a tasty mixture of spinach and mushrooms.
A Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich is sure to be popular for those wanting something a little sweeter. This griddled sandwich comes topped with powdered sugar and can be ordered with or without bananas.
Breakfast options will include breakfast rice bowls.
Kendrick said they will also be serving a line of lemonades and sweet teas made by his daughter Grace.
