Memphis rapper GloRilla wins at BET Hip Hop Awards, sets EP release
Memphis rapper GloRilla continued her rise to stardom in 2022 with a win at the BET Hip Hop Awards. The 23-year-old won the Best Breakthrough Artist award and also performed during the pre-recorded show that aired Tuesday night.
GloRilla beat out a crew of contenders for the Breakthrough Artist honor that included Saucy Santana, Fivio Foreign, Baby Keem, Doechii, Blxst, and Nardo Wick.
Accepting the award from Tyrese, an emotional GloRilla — real name Gloria Woods — was accompanied by her CMG music group label head and fellow rapper Yo Gotti, who signed her to the company earlier this year.
“I don’t want to cry my makeup off… Y’all, I’m crying,” GloRilla said. “I want to thank God. I want to thank my team, my mama, Yo Gotti, the biggest CEO. My manager, my family everybody that supported me… I don’t know what to say.”

The honor comes as GloRilla’s collaboration with Cardi B, “Tomorrow 2” — a remix of a song that originally appeared on this past summer’s CMG compilation “Gangsta Art” — hit No. 9 on the Billboard hot 100 charts.
GloRilla’s other releases this year have included the viral hit “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” and “Blessed.” In addition to collaborating with Cardi B. she’s also appeared on tracks by fellow Memphian Duke Deuce and projects by HitKidd.
GloRilla also performed “Tomorrow” and “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” as part of her BET Hip Hop Awards show appearance.
Following her win on Tuesday, GloRilla announced that she would be putting out her debut EP, “Anyways, Life Is Great,” on Nov. 11 through CMG. The release is available now for pre-order.
