This is why Michael Bolton isn't a Coolio impersonator
Legendary singer Michael Bolton visited Lip Sync Battle and quickly realized that fake singing is harder than real singing. The Grammy-winning singer managed a “beliebable” Bieber but couldn’t crush it as Coolio.
Bolton started with Justin Bieber’s song “You Should Go and Love Yourself.” The choreography was pretty simple for the warm-up tune: Bolton just stood behind the mic and held a guitar. Afterward he said, “I’ve spent my whole life lip-syncing with volume. You know, notes coming out of my face, and it took a lot of concentration.”
For his second number, Bolton performed Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise.” But the choreography had very little hip and almost no hop. Bolton basically wandered around the stage while LL Cool J laughed uncontrollably.
Bolton did not win, and rightfully so. But his competitor, Saturday Night Live‘s Pete Davidson, was kind enough to compliment Bolton on his performance, saying, “That was awesome.”
Lip Sync Battle airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on the Paramount Network.
