Of his illness, Fox told The Guardian in February, “It just is what it is. It didn’t defeat me. I wish it was a heroic thing. I’m not saying: ‘Yeah! Bring it, bring it!’ I hate it. It sucks. It’s a piece of s—. It’s tough to get up in the morning and keep going. But I have a beautiful family and this office with trophies.”

Today, the actor is a tireless advocate for a cure, having founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000.

“It just became my whole purpose,” he said of finding a cure after his diagnosis, not necessarily for himself, but for those in the future. “And then that was the answer. I didn’t have time to think about it. And Parkinson’s has been by far the most exciting thing – much more than my career.”

In a 2023 interview with Variety, Fox  gave a glimpse into his everyday life, saying, “I’m still happy to join the day and be a part of things.”

“I just enjoy the little math problems of existence. I love waking up and figuring that stuff out and at the same time being with my family. My problem is I fall down. I trip over things and fall down and break things. And that’s part of having this. But I hope that, and I feel that, I won’t break as many bones tomorrow. So that’s being optimistic.”
