A release date for Michael Jackson’s official biopic, aptly titled Michael, has been confirmed.

The Antoine Fuqua-directed film is slated for release on April 18, 2025. It stars the late King of Pop’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in his feature film debut. Production will begin later this month.

The official film description describes Michael as a “riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became the King of Pop [that] presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances.” Unlike prior films, fans will experience a never-before-seen “inside look” into Jackson’s life and struggles.

John Branca and John McClain, the co-executors of his estate, will also produce the film—which may sway how Jackson’s child sexual abuse allegations are depicted. He vehemently denied such claims and was found not guilty of child molestation in 2003.

The “Thriller” singer maintained his innocence until his death in June 2009. Jackson died at age 50 of a heart attack induced from “acute propofol intoxication.”

News of the release date comes a year after it was announced that Fuqua was tapped to direct the film.

When speaking on the feat, the Training Day visionary shared in a statement, “The first films of my career were music videos, and I still feel that combining film and music are a deep part of who I am. For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma, and the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson. I was influenced to make music videos by watching his work—the first Black artist to play in heavy rotation on MTV. His music and those images are part of my worldview, and the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible.”
