Michael Jordan’s Classic Air Jordan 12 Gets a New ‘Blueberry’ Color in December
More from Footwear News
Michael Jordan’s twelfth signature sneaker will receive a new look in familiar color blocking this holiday season.
While initial reports pointed to the upcoming “Blueberry” Air Jordan 12 Retro having a connection to Jordan’s brief stint with the Washington Wizards before his final retirement, there doesn’t appear to be any obvious ties to the NBA team. Instead, the new-look retro pair takes one of the model’s original styles, the “Cherry” Air Jordan 12, and swaps its red accenting with a royal blue. With an official colorway of “White/Black/Game Royal,” it seems that the “Blueberry” nickname is sticking à la the original “Cherry” style.
The “Blueberry” Air Jordan 12 Retro retains all of the hallmarks of the “Cherry” pair including a ribbed tumbled leather upper inspired by the Japanese Rising Sun Flag, faux reptilian texture on the mudguard, metallic eyelets and signature heel branding denoting “quality inspired by the greatest player ever.” Side-by-side, it’s a near one-to-one color flip of the “Cherry” style and a pair that could have easily fit into the sneaker’s original run during 1996-97.
A similar Air Jordan 12 in “French Blue,” which was once worn by late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, is also reportedly in the works and will be released in 2025. However, it’s said that the new pair will feature a “French Blue 2.0” theme with additional red Jumpman branding that separates it from the first style, which was released in 2004.
This isn’t the first time Jordan Brand has alternated the colors on an iconic style of the Air Jordan 12, although the changes are usually seen on the shoe’s black-based colorways. Notable pairs include 2019’s “Black/Game Royal,” 2020’s “University Gold” and most recently, a WNBA All-Star-themed “Brilliant Orange.”
For readers looking to add to their holiday shopping lists, this Air Jordan 12 Retro “Blueberry” will arrive right on time. The pair, which has a SKU of CT8013-140, is currently expected to be released on Dec. 18 for a retail price of $210 from SNKRS and select Jordan Brand stockists.
