Mick Jagger slammed for birthday tribute to late girlfriend L'Wren Scott: She would 'be alive today if you hadn't broken her heart'
Mick Jagger remembered his late girlfriend, designer L'Wren Scott, on what would have been her 55th birthday. He kept it simple, a pretty photo of her smiling, along with, “Happy birthday L’Wren,” but not all the reactions have been kind.
“If L’Wren Scott had never got involved with you she might be celebrating her 55th birthday herself today,” commenter Carol Jhosson (@caroljhosson) wrote in response to the Rolling Stones frontman, 75.
Another commenter, Jane Sowell (@jtssammie), put, “L’Wren would be alive if you hadn’t broken her heart with ballerina affair,” a reference to Jagger’s current girlfriend, Melanie Hamrick, a 32-year-old ballerina with the American Ballet Theater. “Let’s be real people.”
And there were various other negative ones among the sweet ones like “angel” and “It’s very touching that you remember her with posts like this.” Another person wrote to the infamous ladies’ man, “Men. They don’t realize what they’ve lost until they’ve lost us.”
Another wrote, “How is it happy when she’s gone?”
Jagger and Scott, who was a stylist turned designer, dated for more than a decade and were red carpet fixtures — with Scott glamorously towering over him. When she died by suicide at her NYC home in March 2014, he halted his Rolling Stones tour to fly to NY. “I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” he said at the time.
But Jagger isn’t known for his faithfulness to one woman — and there were rumors at the time of Scott’s death that he had been seeing Hamrick. Three months later, Jagger and Hamrick were spotted canoodling on a hotel balcony. In 2016, they welcomed a child together — Jagger’s eighth.
Some of Scott’s family members have spoken out about Jagger — and not positively — regarding their relationship.
Jagger has been recovering from heart surgery but plans to return to the stage with the Stones this summer.
