Emilio Estevez returns in the first trailer for 'The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers'
It’s been 25 years since we saw Emilio Estevez lace up his skates for 1996’s third and final Mighty Ducks film. But Ducks never say die... and neither do peewee hockey coaches. Gordon Bombay is back in The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, a new Disney+ series based on the 1990s franchise. Ahead of its Mar. 26 debut on the streaming service, Disney has released a teaser trailer for the 10-episode show that introduces us to the new status quo in Minneapolis youth hockey. (Watch the trailer above.)
Thanks in large part to Bombay’s coaching, the Mighty Ducks are now the mightiest hockey team around, and making the team is a cutthroat competition. That’s what Evan Morrow (Good Boys breakout star, Brady Noon) learns when he’s unceremoniously cut from the team and stuck looking for a new place to land. “If you can’t be great at hockey it’s, like, don’t bother,” one of the coaching staff tells him.
But Evan’s mom, Alex — played by Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham — is bothered a heck of a lot by her son’s rejection and takes it upon herself to reboot the idea of building a new team of hockey misfits. And she’ll have some help from another Ducks cast-off, Coach Bombay. No longer welcome at his former team’s arena, he’s running a run-down ice rink that’s not seeing a lot of business. Small wonder that he’s once again grown cynical about the sport, at point telling Alex, “Why do you care so much?” “Because you care,” she replies. Where Gordon Bombay goes, the the triple deke can’t be far behind.
Not surprisingly, Ducks fans are feeling the ‘90s nostalgia on Twitter.

Another show about Lauren Graham being a supportive single mother, but this time she's wearing Gophers gear in every scene? Yes, I will be watching Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. pic.twitter.com/0YV0aeujJC

“Ugh millennial pandering at its finest,” she says as she sobs watching a preview for a Mighty Ducks reboot starring Lorelei Gilmore and quietly renews Disney+ through her tears.
