This won’t be the first time “Hush” has ever been available on streaming — the film was on Netflix until being unceremoniously removed in 2023.
“‘Hush’ is one of the projects that is closest to my heart, and I cannot think of a better home than Shout!,” Flanagan said in a press statement. “I’m so glad that people will finally be able to rent or purchase the film digitally. I’ve always loved how Shout! Studios champions and treasures their titles, and I also cannot wait for what’s to come. Fans of ‘Hush’ are going to have much to celebrate!”
“Hush” stars frequent Flanagan collaborator Kate Siegel as a deaf writer who has retreated into the woods to live a solitary life. However, her isolated peace is interrupted when she must fight for her life in silence as a masked killer begins to stalk her.
John Gallagher Jr., Samantha Sloyan, and Michael Trucco co-star.
Flanagan and Siegel co-wrote the film together. Horror king Stephen King praised the film upon its release, saying it was “up there with ‘Halloween,’ and even more, ‘Wait Until Dark.’ White knuckle time.”
“Hush” is produced by Trevor Macy of Intrepid Pictures and Jason Blum of Blumhouse, with Michael J. Fourticq Sr., Kate Lumpkin, Couper Samuelson, and Jeanette Brill executive producing.
The official press release teased that Shout! Studios and Flanagan will announce additional news about Flanagan’s filmography in the coming months.
Flanagan previously wrote on his blog in 2023 that he tried to work with Netflix for years to “release the work I created for them on physical media.” The post was prompted by the streaming platform removing “Hush” from its digital library. Flanagan’s overall deal at Netflix expired with “House of Usher.” He’s since moved to Amazon, another tech giant, but one that he says has a “somewhat different perspective on physical media.”
During the 2024 ATX Festival, Flanagan teased the release of “Hush” on both digital and DVD.
“We took it back because I really value physical media. And Netflix, by policy, it does not work in their business plan. So we took it back,” Flanagan said when asked about “Hush’s” availability. “We do have a new home for it. I can’t say where. I can say there will be a physical release, and that there will be a lot of really awesome surprises that we’ve been working on for a year to make this release awesome. It’s something that will be really exciting. The fans have been waiting. If you’ve been looking for ‘Hush’ and it’s nowhere to be found, it will be back soon. It will be everywhere. You’ll be able to stream it. You’ll be able to have it in your collection, and it’s gonna be worth the wait because we did some really awesome new stuff for it.”
