Mike Huckabee dismisses Taylor Swift fans as 13-year-old girls, and they aren't having it
Political commentator Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, is one of the people decrying the rare political statement that Taylor Swift posted Sunday on social media.
Huckabee took a jab at the “Reputation” singer by suggesting that her fans are all young girls, years away from reaching legal voting age.
So @taylorswift13 has every right to be political but it won’t impact election unless we allow 13 yr old girls to vote. Still with #MarshaBlackburn

Her Swifties, who have helped her break attendance records on her current worldwide tour, were quick to come to the star’s defense, pointing out that what Huckabee said might have been true years ago but not anymore. The 13-year-old girls who rocked out to 2006’s “Tim McGraw” or — quite appropriately, in this case — “Mean” in 2010 can now go to the polls. They also mocked Huckabee for getting involved in the situation at all.
He wasn’t the only one who disapproved of Swift’s announcement that she would vote against Rep. Marsha Blackburn, a Republican, in Tennessee’s race for U.S. Senate. Although Swift has received some backlash for speaking out, she’s also received plenty of love — much of it in the form of GIFs and concert photos — in the comments on Huckabee’s post.
Let’s do some math. When you were elected Gov. of AR in 1996, let’s generously say the average age of your voters was 50. They’re 72 now.
When @taylorswift13 released her FIRST album in 2006, let’s say that her average fan was 13. They’re 25 now. And they’re gonna vote. 🙏🏻

I can’t believe that everyone in my fandom has been 13 for 10 years. We are the queens and kings of not aging

I’m just so sick of seeing these kinds of posts every time a celebrity DARES to speak out politically. There’s a rash of people saying, “Stick to playing ball, etc” like the only thing they are good for is to be drug out as puppets for our entertainment. NO. They are citizens TOO

See, what you’re NOT gonna do is come for adult Swifties pic.twitter.com/0L6FtDM1qu

So you’re telling us Sarah has removed “Skake It Off” from her Spotify? Cause I believe Taylor’s song is the only way she makes it through her day of lying to America.

Too bad a majority of her fans are well over 18. And thanks to people like you, we are going to use our voice this November. pic.twitter.com/gGrqcql7Gy

Of course, there were also references to that memorable line from Swift’s shade-filled song, “Look What You Made Me Do.”
