Mike Tyson’s Net Worth Was Once 30 Times What It Is Now—Here’s If He Still Makes More Than Jake Paul
Mike Tyson is a familiar name for boxing fans. He is way more well-known in the sport than his next opponent, Jake Paul, who has only started boxing in recent years and made his name as a YouTube content creator. Tyson, who made a lot of money during his boxing career, isn’t the kind of athlete one would expect to see fighting someone over 30 years his senior in a fight that will be streamed on Netflix. And yet, here Tyson is.
One of the reasons why might be money, and who can blame him? The purse of the fight is estimated to be $80 million, and whatever cut Tyson gets from that will be a very nice payday. It’s a far cry from what Tyson got during the height of his career, however. And though Paul is significantly younger, Tyson comes into the fight ready to win.

“I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas,” said Mike Tyson about the upcoming fight. “He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It’s a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him off on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him.”
But how much is Mike Tyson’s net worth and how much does he make per fight? How much has he made throughout the course of his career? How much has he lost? And is he worth more than Jake Paul?
Mike Tyson’s net worth and how much he makes per fight
Tyson is reportedly worth an estimated $10 million dollars in 2024. It’s a far cry from the $300 million he was worth at the height of his career, but it still makes him a millionaire. He is set to make a nice payday from the fight against Jake Paul, and though no specific numbers have been released, reports indicate he could earn somewhere around 20$ million. Considering his net worth, that’s a lot of money and it might explain why Tyson is fighting in the first place.
Boxing was good to Tyson, who at the height of his career was paid $103 million for his fight against Lennox Lewis. But excessive spending on things like cars and motorcycles—including 19 he bought for friends—pigeons and big cats, like Siberian Tigers, animal trainers and jewelry and clothing coupled with the fact that Tyson was scammed by former managers and promoters led to financial decline to the point that Tyson filed for bankruptcy in 2003, with debt reported to be around $23 million at the time.
Getting out of that took time. In 2010, Tyson confirmed on The View that he was still having money problems, explaining that he was “broke and bankrupt.” But since then, Tyson has appeared in television shows and movies, and that, as well as a cannabis business, has contributed to his net worth as of today. And though he isn’t anywhere near Jake Paul, whose Most Valuable Promotions is also behind the upcoming fight, these days Mike Tyson is doing just fine, despite being worth about 30 times less than he was at his prime.
