Mila Kunis blames herself for 'horrible, horrible breakup' with Macaulay Culkin
She and husband Ashton Kutcher have two children, and he’s been romantically linked to Brenda Song, but it wasn’t so long ago that Mila Kunis and Macaulay Culkin were a couple.
Kunis dated the Home Alone star for eight years before it all came crashing down in what the actress calls a “horrible, horrible breakup.” Apparently, she was the one at fault.
Kunis opened up about the split — which was announced in January 2011 — during her appearance on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast.
“I was an a*****e in my 20s, and I’ll be the first to admit it,” the 34-year-old star told Shepard, who’s married to her Bad Moms and Bad Moms Christmas co-star Kristen Bell. “And that’s something that took me a long time to come out and be like, ‘Yeah, you know what, I was a d***,’ and accept it and I own it now.”
Kunis, who began dating future husband Kutcher in 2012, didn’t specify what exactly went wrong — but did insist that she was the one who “f***ed up.”
And it’s f***ed up what I did,” she continued. “It’s f***ed up what I did and it’s f***ed up how I did it. When I got to be a single I said, ‘I just need to figure myself out. I genuinely need to know why I did what I did, and, like, regroup myself as a human being.’”
Though Kunis blames herself for the split, it all sounds like water under the bridge at this point.
“You know, it’s been so long … I feel like enough time has gone by,” she said. “I think enough mutual friends have been like, everybody kind of forgave everybody for what went down.”
While she’s frank about her relationships, Kunis also spoke in the interview about her disdain for tabloid gossip and trolling.
“Nowadays, you read magazines, and none of it’s … even just fake — it’s just not plausible news,” she said.
