Miley Cyrus Is a Mic-Dropping Rock Diva in Powerhouse ‘Flowers’ Grammys Performance
Miley Cyrus doesn’t need a man to buy her flowers, take her dancing, or help her absolutely rock the Grammys. The singer took the stage at the 2024 Grammys Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night to perform her smash hit “Flowers” from her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation.
Looking like a Seventies rock goddess in a sparking silver dress and a blowout as big as Jane Fonda’s in Barbarella, Cyrus ferociously launched into “Flowers.” Seconds later, she looked around at the crowd and hilariously asked the audience of her peers, “Why are you acting like you don’t know this song?” in true Hannah Montana fashion. It was a history-making Number One hit after all.

Cyrus revealed it was only the second time she sang “Flowers” live, but it felt like the millionth with her signature gravelly vocals carrying the song to new echelons. The singer was clearly basking in the glow of her first-ever Grammy award win from earlier in the night for Best Pop Solo Performance. She was also channeling her personal idols, including Tina Turner. In the prologue before her performance, Cyrus admitted, “I just want to be the artist that my idols would be proud of.” And she definitely was.
With show-stopping choreography by a professional who has clearly been preparing for this moment for more than a decade, Cyrus even got Oprah up and singing along. Cyrus secured “Flowers” as the ultimate self-love anthem with a coda that nearly brought the whole house down, as she kicked down the microphone stand in a gloriously rockstar diva moment.

The track, which is a declaration of Cyrus’ independence following her divorce from actor Liam Hemsworth, was nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. Earning a total of six nominations, the singer is also up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Thousand Miles” featuring Brandi Carlile.
Sunday marked the first time she has performed “Flowers” on television since the single arrived in January 2023. Following the release of Endless Summer Vacation in March, Cyrus revealed that she would not tour the album. The singer explained that performing in front of thousands of people is not the method by which she wants to connect with her fans. She also cited the difficulty of living life on the road.
“Even if I don’t see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart. I’m constant creating and innovating new ways that I can stay connect to the audience I love — without sacrificing my own essentials,” she said. “Performing for YOU has been some of the best days of my life & we will continue this journey together as we have for the last almost two decades. This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans & everything to do with I simply don’t want to get ready in a locker room… I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus.”
