The Milky Way Drive-In's first season was a hit. So naturally, because it's the movies, there have been sequels.

The Milky Way popped up in 2020 in the north parking lot at Ballpark Commons, 7900 Crystal Ridge Drive, next to the Milwaukee Milkmen's home stadium. The first drive-in theater in the Milwaukee area in nearly 20 years, it had a number of sold-out screenings during Milwaukee's first COVID-19 pandemic summer.

The Milky Way is owned by ROC Ventures, which operates Ballpark Commons; the drive-in operates when the Milkmen, the independent minor-league baseball team that won the American Association championship last season, is on the road. As a result, the drive-in's schedule is a little erratic, and is regularly updated on its website.

How the Milky Way Drive-In works

How does the Milky Way work? Here are the basics.

  • Tickets are only available online at milkywaydrivein.com.

  • No food or beverage carry-ins are allowed. Concessions staff will go around the parking lot with snacks and drinks available for purchase.

  • The Milky Way discourages sitting outside the vehicle during the movie, unless it's in your parking spot.

  • The Milky Way, which can accommodate about 150 vehicles, is showing movies on a 40-foot outdoor LED screen (which is why some of the movies can start before it's dark). You listen to the movie at 89.1 on your car's FM dial.
