'Million Dollar Quartet' lives up to its name!
Sep. 4—Anyone who's a fan of music from the 1950s and early '60s should treat themselves to Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre's current production of "Million Dollar Quartet," where the heart of rock-and-roll is definitely still beating!
Based on a true story, this show is about one amazing day on Dec. 4, 1956, when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins all found themselves at Sun Records recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee, and spent the evening jamming together as they discussed their careers, futures and life in general.
"Million Dollar Quarter" is as much a live concert as it is a theatrical production; the show includes the thespians involved playing their own instruments and singing songs from the era including "Blue Suede Shoes," "Fever," Walk the Line," "Great Balls of Fire," "Hound Dog" and more.
I cannot shower enough praise on the actors involved in this production as each did an outstanding job of recreating the music that helped launch the rock-and-roll craze that took America and the world by storm.
"Million Dollar Quartet" is on stage through October 6, and each show includes a delicious buffet and free parking.
