Mindy Kaling said she'd like to retire in this Mass. vacation spot

Actress Mindy Kaling, a Cambridge native, said what her dream vacation spot in Massachusetts might be for when she retires.

Kaling joined Ted Danson on the “TODAY” show Tuesday morning. The pair were raising awareness for plaque psoriasis and have never worked together before.

However, Kaling mentioned Danson in her 2015 memoir, host Sheinelle Jones said.

Jones said Kaling wrote that she would enjoy "retiring to a tasteful mega-compound on Martha’s Vineyard, where I would write plays and drink wine with Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen at least several times a week.”

Jones then said that she and the other hosts thought they might as well make part of Kaling's dreams a reality, as a “TODAY” show worker bought out glasses of wine for the group.

Danson and Steenburgen married on Martha’s Vineyard in 1995 and own a home on the island.

Kaling went on to clarify what she meant when she wrote that part of her memoirs.

“I think what I was writing about is when I become a multibillionaire from all of my TV money, and this is what I want to do: retire to the Vineyard and have Ted Danson tell me stories with Mary,” Kaling said.

Then she turned to Danson and said, “Where is Mary? You’re just half of this fantasy.”

“She’s in Portland, shooting a film,” Danson said. “And her only thing to me today was please tell Mindy how spectacular she looked at the Met Gala. Nothing about me.”

“I can’t take you to Martha’s Vineyard but we have Studio 1A, we have Rockefeller Center,” Jones said, as she took a glass of wine.

“Cheers,” said Danson, clinking glasses with Kaling.

What is plaque psoriasis?

Kaling is a spokesperson along with Danson for the Bristol Myers Squibb campaign for plaque psoriasis, but she does not suffer from the skin condition. Danson does.

Plaque psoriasis causes "dry, itchy, raised skin patches (plaques) covered with scales. There may be few or many. They usually appear on the elbows, knees, lower back and scalp," according to the Mayo Clinic.

Danson shared that he’s been dealing with the medical issue since he was 25 years old and has caused a lot of low self-esteem and shame for him, he said.

Danson also talked about his new podcast with a former castmate in the NBC show “Cheers,” famously set in Boston, called “Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson (Sometimes).”
