Miranda Lambert Today: Singer’s New Album Postcards from Texas Is Almost Here

Miranda Lambert is set to release her 10th studio album Postcards from Texas on September 13. The Grammy-winning country singer announced the new album with the release of her divorce anthem “Alimony” in July. She also previewed Postcards from Texas with the fiery singles “Wranglers” and “Dammit Randy” earlier in the year.

The 14-track album is the first with her new label Republic Records and features a collaboration with Parker McCollum on the song “Santa Fe.” Postcards from Texas follows the success of her 2022 album Palomino, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album. The 40-year-old Texas native recently told Us Weekly that her upcoming self-produced album contains “all kinds” of country music.

“I made this with a new energy, kind of like the energy I had at 19 making my first album,” Lambert said. “This record feels like you made it home, and you’re like, I’m going to send you some letters from home for a while.”

Who Is Miranda Lambert?

Grammy-winning country singer Miranda Lambert is known for her fiery lyrics on songs like “Heart Like Mine” and “Gunpowder & Lead.” Born and raised in Texas, Lambert was still a teenager when her appearance on the singing competition show Nashville Star earned her a record deal. Her debut record, Kerosene, became the first of several No. 1 country albums, as her later efforts Platinum and Wildcard both won Grammys for Best Country Album. Lambert, who is also a member of the country trio Pistol Annies, has won the CMA Award for Female Vocalist of the Year seven times. Following her divorce from fellow country music star Blake Shelton, Lambert married her current husband, Brendan McLoughlin. She will release her 10th album Postcards from Texas in September 2024.

Quick Facts

BIRTHPLACE: Longview, Texas

Early Life: Parents, Talent Shows, and Nashville Star

Miranda Leigh Lambert was born on November 10, 1983, in Longview, Texas. She grew up in Lindale, a small town where her parents, Rick and Bev, ran a private detective agency. Her father was also a guitarist and songwriter, and she grew up listening to country music greats such as Merle Haggard and Guy Clark. Mirand has a younger brother, Luke.

At age 10, Miranda entered her first country music talent show. Her budding career got a boost from performing on Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue, a weekly variety show in Arlington, Texas. This program helped launch the careers of several other country music stars, including LeAnn Rimes and Lee Ann Womack. Another talent contest led to her appearances in a commercial and the teen comedy Slap Her... She’s French (2001).

Inspired by singer-songwriters like Emmylou Harris, Miranda began writing her own songs after learning how to play the guitar from her father. She started her own band called Texas Pride at age 17 while still in high school. Her family supported her efforts by helping to finance and promote her first recording, an independent self-titled CD released in 2001.

Focused on a career in music, Miranda graduated early from Lindale High School in 2002 to pursue her dream. The following year, she got a big break when she passed the auditions for a new country music reality show called Nashville Star. She moved to the country music capital to compete for a recording contract among other prizes.

While she didn’t win, Miranda still landed a major label contract with Sony Music Nashville after becoming the show’s second runner-up. “I was hoping not to win,” she said in a statement on her website. “The winner had to go in right after the contest and make a record in a couple of weeks, and I wasn’t ready.”

Albums and Hit Songs

As a solo artist, Lambert has released nine albums, seven of which have become No. 1 country albums. Platinum (2014), her only record to top the Billboard 200, and Wildcard (2019) both won the Grammy for Best Country Album. Her five No. 1 country songs include the Grammy-winning “The House That Built Me,” “Heart Like Mine,” “Over You,” “We Were Us” with Keith Urban, and “Somethin’ Bad” with Carrie Underwood.

Lambert’s albums, in order, are:

Kerosene

In 2004, Lambert released the single “Me and Charlie Talking,” an up-tempo tale of puppy love. It was a modest hit and was soon followed by her first major label album, Kerosene (2005). After the album’s release, Lambert went on tours with George Strait and Keith Urban.

Debuting at the top of the country music charts, Kerosene surprised some listeners with its fiery lyrics. “I don’t write about angels, Jesus, happy days, kids. I grew up on drinkin’, cheatin’, love gone bad,” she once explained. Clearly, her songs struck a chord with the music-buying public, as the album went on to sell more than 1 million copies by March 2007.

Also a hit with critics, Kerosene earned several positive reviews from a variety of sources, including Rolling Stone and The New Yorker. The Academy of Country Music (ACM) named Lambert the Top New Female Vocalist of 2006. The rising country star later received her first Grammy nomination for the song “Kerosene.”

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

In 2007, Lambert had another hit album on her hands. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend started out at the top of the country album charts and reached as high as No. 6 on the Billboard 200.

The title track became a popular hit and anthem of sorts for former girlfriends everywhere, while “Gunpowder & Lead” tells the story of a woman seeking to kill her abusive significant other. On the flip side, Lambert appears unusually vulnerable on “More Like Her.” She also reflects on her love of rural life in “Famous in a Small Town.”

Along with being a strong seller, the album brought Lambert significant critical attention. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend won an ACM Award for Album of the Year.

Revolution

For 2009’s Revolution, Lambert seemed to find her romantic side with such songs as “Making Plans” and “Love Song.” “Heart Like Mine,” a more classic Lambert tune, was one of the album’s biggest hits. One of her songwriting collaborators on the No. 1 country album was fellow country star Blake Shelton, who she was dating at the time.

“The House That Built Me” earned Lambert her first Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. The track was also named Song, Single, and Video of the Year at the ACM Awards. Later, the Academy of Country Music named it the song of the decade.

Even more awards were in store for Revolution. It was named Album of the Year at the 2009 ACM Awards and at the 2010 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards. Lambert was also named the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, the first of six consecutive trophies in the category.

Four The Record

In November 2011, Lambert delivered another top country album in Four the Record. It was later named the ACM Album of the Year, her third title in as many nominations.

“Mama’s Broken Heart” became another hit, as “Over You,” co-written by her then-husband Blake Shelton, was named Song of the Year at the 2012 CMAs and ACM Awards.

Platinum

In 2014, Lambert released what is arguably her most successful album to date. Platinum swept top honors at the major awards shows as it won the Grammy for Best Country Album in 2015 and Album of the Year titles at the CMAs and ACM Awards.

Platinum featured the hit track “Automatic” that was named the ACM Song of the Year and Single of the Year at the 2014 CMAs. Another popular song was “Somethin’ Bad,” a duet with Carrie Underwood.

The Weight of These Wings

After releasing the single “Vice” in July 2016, Lambert followed with The Weight of These Wings later in the year. The double album became her sixth platinum-certified record as well as her fifth record to win Album of the Year honors at the ACM Awards. Another ACM Award went to “Tin Man,” the 2017 Song of the Year.

Wildcard

Lambert delivered another well-received effort, Wildcard, in November 2019. The record topped the country charts and featured the singles “It All Comes Out in the Wash” and “Bluebird.” Wildcard also won Lambert another Grammy for Best Country Album.

With dates from her 2020 Wildcard Tour postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lambert was among the stars who performed for the ACM Presents: Our Country special in early April. The following year, she released the music video for her Telemitry remix of “Tequila Does,” featuring her brother, Luke, and his husband, Marc.

The Marfa Tapes

In May 2021, Lambert released the collaborative album The Marfa Tapes with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall. Featuring the lead single “In His Arms,” the Texas-inspired album was nominated for Best Country Album at the Grammy Awards. A documentary about the making of The Marfa Tapes premiered on Paramount+ the following year.

Notably, 2021 was also the year Lambert won the prestigious Entertainer of the Year title at the ACM Awards. She had previously been nominated five times.

Palomino

Less than a year later, in April 2022, Lambert released her ninth studio album, Palomino, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. The 15-track album about life on the road earned nominations for Best Country Album at the Grammys and Album of the Year at both the CMA and ACM Awards.

Her solo recording of “In His Arms,” which previously appeared on The Marfa Tapes, was nominated for the Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance and “If I Was A Cowboy” was nominated for Best Country Song.

New Album

Lambert will release her upcoming album Postcards from Texas on September 13. In an interview with Us Weekly, she explained that her new record contains “all kinds” of country music. “I made this with a new energy, kind of like the energy I had at 19 making my first album,” Lambert said.

Pistol Annies

In addition to her solo career, Lambert is a member of the Grammy-nominated country group Pistol Annies, along with Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe. The trio debuted on the CBS special ACM Girls Night Out: Superstar Women of Country in April 2011 and released their first album, Hell on Heels, just months later in August. It reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

Next came Annie Up in May 2013. The record just missed the top spot on the Billboard country album chart; it peaked at No. 2. Also in 2013, Pistol Annies teamed up with Lambert’s then-husband Blake Shelton for the hit song “Boys ’Round Here.”

Five years passed before the country trio returned with another album. With songs such as “Got My Name Changed Back” and “Best Years of My Life,” Interstate Gospel arrived in November 2018 and proved to be another country chart-topper. Moreover, Interstate Gospel earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album.

Pistol Annies released their first Christmas album, Hell of a Holiday, in October 2021.

Husband Brendan McLoughlin

Lambert is currently married to New York City police officer Brendan McLoughlin. The couple met on the set of Good Morning America just two months before they tied the knot on January 26, 2019. Lambert is a stepmom to McLoughlin’s 4-year-old son, Landon, who was an infant at the time of the couple’s wedding.

Lambert and McLoughlin primarily reside on a 400-acre farm in rural Tennessee but also have a place in New York City to be close to Landon, who lives full-time with McLoughlin’s ex-girlfriend Kaihla Rettinger.

In September 2024, Lambert told US Weekly that while she didn’t expect to fall in love with a city boy, she’s glad she took a chance on him. “I kind of went for it; no risk, no reward,” she said.

Ex-Husband Blake Shelton

Lambert was previously married to fellow musician Blake Shelton. After several years of dating, the pair cemented their status as one of country music’s power couples at their May 2011 wedding.

Throughout their relationship, Lambert and Shelton collaborated professionally. He notably cowrote a few of the songs on her 2009 album Revolution, and the couple teamed up to record “Boys ’Round Here” with Lambert’s band, Pistol Annies.

Lambert and Shelton deflected persistent rumors about troubles in their relationship after their wedding. Then, in July 2015, they announced they were divorcing after four years of marriage. “This is not the future we envisioned,” Lambert and Shelton said in a statement. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.” The split was made official hours after the announcement.

Following her first marriage, Lambert dated R&B singer Anderson East for two years.

Net Worth

As of September 2024, Lambert has an estimated net worth of $60 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. While much of her fortune is due to her music and concert sales, she also earns money from her clothing brand, Idyllwind, and her line of signature wines from Red 55 Winery. Additionally, she is the owner of the Nashville bar, Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa, which opened in 2021.

Quotes

  • I don’t write about angels, Jesus, happy days, kids. I grew up on drinkin’, cheatin’, love gone bad.

  • I love writing songs and pride myself on being a songwriter. But I also think about some of the really big hits in my set list, like “The House That Built Me,” and “Little Red Wagon,” and “Mama’s Broken Heart.” I didn’t write any of those, and so if I wasn’t open to outside songs, I would never have found those songs that are staples in my career.

  • I’ve been touring for 20 years, and I’ve been everywhere and seen nothing—just like a lot of parking lots.

  • One thing I’m not is fake.
