Miranda Lambert Shares Special Advice Loretta Lynn Gave Her That Helped Her Career

As one of country music's brightest stars, Miranda Lambert draws inspiration from the icons who paved the way for her—and she was even fortunate enough to get some very helpful advice from one legend in particular that changed the course of her career.

In a recent appearance on The Great Creators Podcast, Lambert talked about what she learned from the "Coal Miner's Daughter" herself, Loretta Lynn.

"Loretta Lynn said if you don't go live your life you're not going to have anything to write about, and so I've done it," Lambert, 40, said.

"When I started going on the road and having boyfriends and playing shows all over the country I started really writing from my own perspective a lot," she continued.

"But I think that's the draw of country music, especially if it's truth...I mean it's crying in your beer and your dog died and your wife left you and that's what it is. So I feel like I always wanted to be a truth-teller, a storyteller, but stories that were of the truth, good, bad, and ugly, and some of that you had to live, which wasn't the fun part."

In 2022, Lambert joined Carrie Underwood and Reba McEntire at the CMA Awards to perform a tribute to Lynn, who died that year at the age of 90.

The trio sang a medley of Lynn's biggest hits, including “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man),” “Don’t Come Home a-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind)" and “You’re Looking at Country," and—of course—"Coal Miner's Daughter."
